This year’s Fall Major Production presented by the McMaster School of the Arts is Lady in the Red Dress, by David Yee.
The play is set in a world of institutionalized racism, following a Canadian government negotiator during the Chinese Exclusion and the period of the Head Tax.
Director Peter Cockett claims that the Lady in the Red Dress “invites a healthy reappraisal of how Canada came to be the country it is today. Yee’s play insists we acknowledge the past suffering of Chinese Canadians before we can build a better future.”
Community Outreach Coordinator Ingie Metwally had lead actors, Cathy and Omar, on the Morningfile the other day to chat about how they prepared for their roles, and the relevance of the issues the play explores. Check out the sound clip below to hear the full interview.
