The Nutcracker: A Classic with a Canadian Twist

On December 5th, The Nutcracker is returning to Hamilton, courtesy of Canada’s Ballet Jörgen.

The Artistic Director at Canada’s Ballet Jörgen, Bengt Jörgen, choreographed the performance with inspiration from the Group of Seven’s paintings housed at Kleinburg’s McMichael Canadian Art Collection. The show is especially Canadian, complete with a winter wonderful feel and moose cameo.

Along with ten lucky young dance students from the Hamilton/Burlington area (selected through the Canada’s Ballet Jörgen’s Nutcracker Youth Education Program), Hamilton’s 102.9 K-Lite on air personality, Jack Peets, will be sharing the stage with the company’s nineteen professional dancers.

To find out more about the show and the company’s efforts to engage local communities through the shared experience of professional ballet, check out our interview with Marketing and Publicity Coordinator, Amanda Horn, below.
