The Hammer City Roller Girls (HCRG) are embarking on a new decade of competitive roller derby with their 11th season home opener coming up this Saturday, April 30th!

Established back in 2006, HCRG is Canada’s first non-for-profit all women’s flat track roller derby league. Comprised of two teams, the league participates in both sanctioned Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) bouts and tournaments that count towards international WFTDA rankings.

Ingie had Maggie Middleton, aka Typhoid Maggie, and Zoe Bernstein, aka Slamminella, on Morningfile earlier today to talk about their upcoming season. They discussed how they each got into the sport, their diverse and supportive team, and the league’s commitment to giving back to the community.

You can listen to the full interview in the sound clip below. To find out more about the league, check out their website, or follow them on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

If you’re super amped about getting involved, email the league directly at info@hammercityrollergirls.ca to get details on their next Derby 101 Training, volunteering, or becoming an official. And if you’re simply interested in becoming a spectator of this high-energy, full-contact sport, check out their season schedule here.
