One of the most exciting days of Welcome Week is here! SHINE DAY!
What is Shinerama?
Shinerama is the largest post-secondary fundraiser across Canada! It involves more than 35,000 students from over 60 university and college campuses.
What Does Shinerama Raise Money For?
Shinerama raises money and generates awareness for Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis is the most common, fatal genetic disease that affects 1 in every 25 Canadians. Estimates reveal that 1 in every 3,600 children born in Canada has cystic fibrosis.
So, When Does Shinerama Happen?
Shine Day is TODAY, September 2nd! Just remember, it is usually the second Saturday of Welcome Week! Did you know that in 2015, McMaster University surpassed their Shine goal, making us the TOP fundraising school in the country!? This year, our Shine team hopes to keep us on top as the number one national team.
How Can I Help?
To help McMaster reach its goals, you can help by supporting the various fundraisers throughout the summer and Welcome Week. Oh, and of course don’t forget to head on out to Shine Day!
This week, we had 2016’s Shinerama Coordinator, Samantha Jones, in the studio to tell us all about this amazing fundraiser, how she got involved, and how YOU can help! To listen to Mark’s full interview with Samantha on #MorningFile, be sure to check out the sound clip below:
